Honoring Guru Nanak Dev ji

Monday, 14th November 2016 is Guru Nank Dev ji’s Birthday

“I bow at His feet constantly, and pray to Him, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the way.”
– Guru Nanak

Guru Nanak Dev ji was a prophet of peace, love, truth and renaissance. Through His lifetime, He travelled to many countries in Asia, Middle east and even Europe to spread the glory of the Almighty. He taught the people how to connect to their inner truth through the simpliest way of singing and praising the Lord, without the necessity to do complex rituals and practices.

The full moon day in the month of Kartik (November), is a day to honor the one who has shown the world that it is a Guru who helps us to discover ourselves. This day is called  Guru Nanak Gurpurab’ or ‘Guru Nanak Jayanti’ and is celebrated as the birthday of this great saint and philosopher Guru Nanak  ji. [ Gurupurab means ‘Day dedicated to the Guru’ and Jayanti means ‘Day to Praise the Almighty’. ]

Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the day this great Saint and his divine teachings are celebrated in lights and grandeur! Traveling far and wide, He spread the message of the one God who dwells in every one of His creations and constitutes eternal Truth. His birthday is celebrated as a day to praise the Lord and sing hymns of devotion to honor God!

His unique teachings based on equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue have touched countless lives and formed strong social, spiritual, and political communities around the world.

To commemorate the birthday of this first Sikh Guru, here are two profound quotes from His Holiness:

“Even Kings and Emperors with heaps of wealth and vast dominion cannot compare with an ant filled with the love of God.” – Guru Nanak

“There is but One God, His name is Truth, He is the Creator, He fears none, He is without hate, He never dies, He is beyond the cycle of births and death, He is self illuminated, He is realized by the kindness of the True Guru. He was True in the beginning, He was True when the ages commenced and has ever been True, He is also True now.”  – Guru Nanak

When you connect to your inner truth, there is joy in everything within and around you.
